Swann's MD Visit to China Office
Almost six months after moving to its new offices in Times Square in Shanghai's HuaiHai Zhong Road, The Swann Group (China) was very pleased to have a visit from the Managing DIrector, John Murray, during July. Mr Murray has been a regular visitor to China over the past 20 years but this was the first time that he had been to this vibrant city.
Mr Murray said that he was very excited to see that Swann was part of this dynamic market place and that he was expecting the Company to continue its growth in the worlds business hot spot. However, he pointed out that while Swann is located in Shanghai and doing good business there, he noted that the Company is doing business across the China. With a clientele that operate in areas as far flung as Xinning in the west, Dalian in the north, Xian in central China and Guangdong and Guangxi in the south, Swann is an executive search firm that is much more than a Beijing/Shanghai focussed practice in this Region. he said. In fact Mr Murray said that he saw Shanghai as a regional hub from which it would be able to serve the needs of clients throughout the Asia Pacific region. Our Australian and Shanghai offices provide a neat set of book-ends to the region that gives us a capability to serve the needs of western and multi national company clients in the region, he said as he met staff in the Shanghai office.

Swann's strategy in China has been to serve the wide range of companies that are in this market, be they finance, logistics, manufacturing or from Swanns foundation client base of mining, metals and energy. However the point was made by Mr Murray that he believed that Swann was perhaps the only headhunting company in the world that has the dual focus on China and the mining, metals and energy sector.
While in Shanghai, Swann's MD was also able to brief the staff on the next leg of this business trip. He will be visiting Swann clients in Canada and the USA before calling into the Swann office in the UK. It is a strenuous itinerary that he commits to regularly. He said, With global clients and a talent pool that must be searched globally, there is a need to maintain close personal contract. Even with the marvellous modern communication tools at our disposal today, nothing beats regular face-to-face contact in maintaining close relationships. Swann is a global search company, but one of its big differences in the market place is its commitment to relationship building.
This was Mr Murray's first trip to Shanghai, but he assured staff over a cup of coffee that it would not be the last.
